Washington, DC, offiziell den District of Columbia und gemeinhin als Washington, dem District oder einfach DC ist die Hauptstadt der Vereinigten Staaten, auf 16. Juli 1790 gegründet. Die Stadt Washington war ursprünglich eine selbstständige Gemeinde im Gebiet der Columbia bis ein Gesetz des Kongresses im Jahre 1871 wirksam fusionierte die Stadt und das Gebiet in einer einzigen Einheit namens des District of Columbia. Es ist aus diesem Grund, dass die Stadt, die zwar rechtlich den District of Columbia, als Washington bekannt, DC namens Die Stadt am nördlichen Ufer des Potomac River gelegen und ist von den Staaten Virginia und Maryland im Südwesten grenzt an die andere Seiten. Der Bezirk hat eine Wohnbevölkerung von 591.833, weil der Pendler aus den umliegenden Vororten, steigt die Bevölkerung um mehr als eine Million während der normalen Arbeitswoche. Die Washington Metropolitan Area, von denen der Bezirk ist ein Teil, hat eine Bevölkerung von 5,3 Millionen, die neuntgrößte Ballungsraum des Landes.
