South Barre is a census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Barre in Washington County, Vermont, United States. The population was 1,242 at the 2000 census. According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 5.4 km² (2.1 mi²), all land. As of the census of 2000, there were 1,242 people, 534 households, and 367 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 229.4/km² (593.3/mi²). There were 553 housing units at an average density of 102.2/km² (264.1/mi²).
